Case Study: BBC Documentary Fixer (Uttarakhand & Gujarat)
Sir David Attenborough presents Asia, a seven-part series exploring the amazing wildlife and natural wonders of our planet’s largest continent. Filmed over the course of nearly four years, this is the first time that Asia - home to the highest mountain range, the deepest ocean, the tallest jungles, and the biggest cave - has been the focus of a landmark BBC wildlife series.
The Challenge: A "Not at all Simple" Shoot with Last-Minute Changes
We managed the production of two stories for the BBC's flagship 'Asia' wildlife series with remote supervision by our colleagues at the BBC in the UK.
Our teams needed to capture complex sequences in remote and logistically difficult Uttarakhand in the Himalayas, while simultaneously shooting another sequence in a tricky location in Gujarat at the height of the monsoon rains. The project required highly flexible and patient teams that could handle plans 'that changed, sometimes by the hour'.
The Solution: "India Made Easy" with a UK-Managed Partner
We employed highly talented and experienced Indian wildlife crews and rented highly specialised camera and lens equipment from suppliers across India. We then collaborated remotely with Producers in the UK at the BBC, sending daily selects, and even assembly edits, to show how the story was taking shape on the ground in India. We natively understand the need for a workflow to 'Make India Easy', regardless of the complexity.
The team at Goa Film Services, and our colleagues at our sister company Himalaya Film Services, are very proud to have played a part in the realisation of a landmark BBC wildlife production.
"It has been fantastic working with you this year, on multiple shoots! Thank you for your enthusiasm, flexibility and never-ending patience as the plans changed, sometimes by the hour. Not one of the shoots we sent your way were at all simple or straightforward but somehow we pulled them off, despite the challenges." - Emma Hatherley, Producer/Director, BBC
